Transvaginal sonography provides a more accurate assessment of ovarian size compared to pelvic examination. Scientists in the United States conducted a study "to compare pelvic examination under anesthesia to transvaginal sonography (TVS) as a method for ovarian detection and measurement." "Two hundred and eighty-nine ovaries from 151 women were evaluated.
