Despite the possible increased risk of cardiovascular disease, researchers believe the action of hormone replacement therapy on insulin secretion merits further study. According to a report from England, "There is a persistent perception that estrogens have an adverse effect on carbohydrate metabolism. It might therefore be expected that their use would result in a corresponding increase in the incidence of diabetes." "Recent evidence from clinical trials suggesting that women on postmenopausal estrogen hormone replacement therapy (HRT) have a reduced incidence of type 2 diabetes therefore appears paradoxical," wrote I.F. Godsland and colleagues....
