Fine needle aspiration cytology used as adjunct to core biopsy in breast cancer diagnosis

Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) could be used as an adjunct to core biopsy (CB) in diagnosing symptomatic breast carcinoma. According to recent research from England, "CB has now largely replaced FNAC in the preoperative assessment of breast cancer. We studied the contribution of FNAC, when done as an adjunct to CB, in cancer patients presenting symptomatically. One hundred and twelve patients had both CB and FNAC preoperatively and subsequently had surgery (wide local excision or mastectomy)."
