Maize price increase associated with decreased maternal plasma vitamin A

An increase in maize prices during a Zambian drought was associated with decreased consumption with concomitant maternal plasma vitamin A levels during pregnancy. In a recently published report, investigators in England conducted a longitudinal cohort study in a maternal and child health clinic in Lusaka, Zambia to "investigate the effects on maternal micronutrient status and infant growth of the increased maize prices that resulted from the southern African drought of 2001-2002."
