Guidelines for coronary disease risk screening in asymptomatic, high-risk post-menopausal women were recently reviewed in the journal Maturitas. "Menopause-related estrogen deficiency increases the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The presence of abdominal obesity, dyslipidemia, hypertension, fasting hyperglycemia or impaired glucose tolerance further aggravates the CVD risk imposed by menopause," noted the reviewers in Greece.
