Hyperinsulinemia may be a common trait both in the metabolic syndrome and polycystic ovary syndrome. According to scientists in the United States, "Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and the metabolic syndrome have many features in common and may share the same pathogenesis. This study was performed to determine the prevalence and predictors of the metabolic syndrome in PCOS."
