Study claims encoding problems, stress cause menopausal women's memory lapses

There may be something to women's complaints that they're more likely to forget things as menopause approaches. Scientists from the University of Rochester Medical Center found a link between complaints of forgetfulness and the way middle-aged, stressed women learn or "encode" new information.

Results from their study were reported February 3, 2006, at the annual meeting of the International Neuropsychological Society in Boston.
