Women more often hospitalized for asthma than men; young boys hospitalized more than girls

A study of 1,286 hospitalized acute asthma patients has shown that, while males are more often hospitalized as children, females are hospitalized more often as adults. The study showed no gender differences in asthma severity markers in children, but hospitalized women with asthma have less severe airway obstruction on admission than men. The study is published in Chest, the peer-reviewed journal of the American College of Chest Physicians. In addition to Schatz, the other authors of the study are Sunday Clark, MPH, ScD, and Carlos A.
