Bone mineral density is not linked with locomotion-related joint loading in young women
March 16th, 2006
Bone mineral density in young women is not linked with locomotion-related joint loading. In a recent article published in the journal Bone, scientists sought to characterize "the extent to which body mass influences the relationship between hip joint moments during locomotion and bone mineral density (BMD) of the proximal femur in healthy young women (n= 24)." "There is some evidence of a direct relationship between hip joint moments during locomotion and BMD of the proximal femur in patients with osteoarthritis," explained M.L. Bareither and colleagues, University Illinois. "Nevertheless, based on expected simultaneous influences of body mass...
