Hirsutenone inhibits COX-2 and MMP-9 upregulation in mammary epithelial cells

Research from South Korea has reported that hirsutenone inhibits phorbol ester-induced upregulation of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in cultured human mammary epithelial cells.

"Inappropriate upregulation of COX-2 and MMPs has been implicated in the pathogenesis of various types of cancer," wrote J.H. Kim and colleagues, Seoul National University.
