Breast Cancer Risk Factors

Recent findings from University of Southern California, Department of Preventive Medicine highlight research in breast cancer risk factors

Research findings, "Prospective study of grapefruit intake and risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women: the Multiethnic Cohort Study," are discussed in a new report. "In vitro and in vivo studies have shown that cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) is involved in the metabolism of oestrogens. There is evidence that grapefruit, an inhibitor of CYP3A4, increases plasma oestrogen concentrations," investigators in the United States report.
