According to recent research from Oslo, Norway, "Androstenone is a 16-androstene steroid pheromone produced in the Leydig cells in the testis, and considered to be one of the major compounds responsible for boar taint. In entire male pigs, progress of sexual maturation has been related to an increase in androstenone levels in fat."
