New research on breast cancer from University of Texas summarized

"Recent studies demonstrate improved progression-free survival (PFS) and improved overall survival (OS) with extirpation of the primary tumor in breast cancer patients who present with metastatic disease at initial diagnosis. The subset of patients who would most benefit from surgery remains unclear," scientists in the United States report.

"This study evaluates the pathological attributes and optimum timing for surgery in patients who present with stage IV breast cancer and an intact primary.
