Research from University of Tokyo provide new insights into breast cancer

"Excessive fat mass is a risk factor for postmenopausal breast cancer. Leptin, a fat cell-derived peptide hormone, elicits a growth-stimulating effect in breast cancer cells with leptin receptor expression, although the leptin-induced signal in malignant cells is not fully understood," scientists writing in the Journal of Surgical Research report.

"Here, we found that exogenous leptin induced tyrosine phosphorylation of HER2 in SKBR3 cells, which showed marked overexpression of HER2.
