New breast cancer research has been reported by scientists at McGill University

"Among breast cancer patients, 20% to 45% develop malignant lesions following their initial treatment," scientists writing in the journal Apmis report. "This relapse may occur after an apparent remission period that can range from years to several decades. Clinical observations suggest that breast-derived malignant cells have the ability to survive subclinically for a very long period of time before eventually resuming proliferation and forming detectable lesions," wrote S.M.
