Research in the area of breast cancer reported from Ocean University of China

"Lipocalin 2, an iron binding protein, is abnormally expressed in some malignant human cancers and may play an important role in tumor metastasis. However, the roles of lipocalin 2 in breast cancer formation and metastasis have not been clearly shown," investigators in Qingdao, People's Republic of China report.

"This study aimed to investigate the roles of lipocalin 2 in breast tumor metastasis. Lipocalin 2 was overexpressed in the metastatic 4T1 murine mammary cancer cells. The effects of lipocalin 2 overexpression on the malignancy of breast cancer cells were examined using cell proliferation assay, migration assay, invasion assay, and soft agar assay in vitro.
