Study data from Northwestern University, Department of Surgery provide new insights into breast cancer

Fresh data on breast cancer are presented in the report 'Reevaluating cathepsin D as a biomarker for breast cancer: serum activity levels versus histopathology.' According to recent research published in the journal Cancer Biology & Therapy, "Cathepsin D is a lysosomal hydrolase involved in intra-and extracellular proteolysis. This enzyme is aberrantly produced and processed in malignancy, and most notably is over-secreted into the tumor cell microenvironment."
