New breast cancer findings from University of Alberta, Cross Cancer Institute described

2010 DEC 30 -- Current study results from the report, 'Clinical and biological significance of GSK-3ß inactivation in breast cancer-an immunohistochemical study,' have been published. "Glycogen synthase kinase 3ß, recently found to be functionally abnormal in various types of human disease, is negatively regulated by the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. As Akt is constitutively activated in a subset of breast cancer, we hypothesized that glycogen synthase kinase 3ß is inappropriately inactivated in these cases," researchers in Edmonton, Canada report.
