Studies from Western General Hospital Reveal New Findings on Breast Cancer

2011 OCT 13 -- Fresh data on Breast Cancer are presented in the report "The mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitor everolimus (RAD001) in early breast cancer: results of a pre-operative study." According to the authors of a study from Edinburgh, United Kingdom, "mTOR plays a key role in tumor cell cycle control, proliferation, and survival. RAD001 (everolimus) is a novel macrolide that inhibits mTOR and thus downstream signaling pathways. 31 post-menopausal women with early breast cancer were given 5 mg RAD001 once daily for 14 days prior to surgery."
