Report assesses anesthetic technique used in high-dose-rate brachytherapy

Radiation oncology specialists at the National University of Singapore Hospital recently reviewed "complications related to different methods of anesthesia for high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy for cervical carcinoma." They studied data on 18 patients who were "diagnosed with cervical cancer between 1999 and 2003 [and] treated with 3-channel HDR brachytherapy ... Complications due to anesthesia for each fraction of brachytherapy were graded using the Common Toxicity Criteria."
