Illinois hospital receives society's chest pain center accreditation

The Society of Chest Pain Centers has granted the designation of Accredited Chest Pain Center to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, Illinois. St. Elizabeth's is the first hospital in the St. Louis, Missouri/East St. Louis, Illinois metropolitan area to receive this accreditation; it is the third accredited Chest Pain Center in Illinois and 70th in the nation. Heart attacks are the leading cause of death in the United States, with 600,000 dying annually of heart disease. More than 5 million Americans visit hospitals each year with chest pain.
