Loss of heterozygosity at chromosome 19p13.3 indicates gene alteration in SCSTs

Loss of heterozygosity at chromosome 19p13.3 in sporadic ovarian sex cord-stromal tumors appears to target a gene, or genes, other than the STK11/LKB1 tumor-suppressor gene, researchers in Spain report.

"Germ line mutations in the STK11/LKB1 tumor-suppressor gene (chromosome 19p13.3) are responsible for the Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS). PJS patients frequently develop neoplasms of various organs," said N. Kato and colleagues, Hospital Santa Creu & Sant Pau, Barcelona.
