Histodiagnosis requires multiple stereotactic core-needle breast biopsy samples

Several stereotactic core-needle biopsy specimens are needed for reliable histodiagnosis of breast lesions. A group of radiologists in Finland conducted a study to "prospectively determine whether there is a minimum number of cores required for histopathologic diagnosis of mammographically detected nonpalpable breast lesions with an add-on 14-gauge stereotactic core-needle biopsy device." "The stud was a roved by the ethics committee of the hospital; informed consent was obtained," noted A.K. Koskela and coauthors at Kuopio University Hospital.
