Should Physicians or Consumers Be in Charge?

Moving from paper to electronic data is beginning to catch on with both physicians and consumers, but there remains some debate on how to best handle this transition.

Mark Leavitt, MD, MedicaLogic, Inc., has been working for 15 years convincing physicians to begin keeping electronic medical records (EMRs). He has made some progress, he reported.

Alan Zwerner, MD, PersonalMD.com, believes that progress has been too slow and that consumer-based personal medical records (PMRs) are the way to go.
