Utah charity files for bankruptcy as probe continues over sale of fitness equipment

A charity accused of ripping off schools around the country on fitness equipment filed for bankruptcy protection June 1, 2004. The National School Fitness Foundation made its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing on the same day it was set to appear before a Minnesota judge over an order to stop doing business in that state. So far, no criminal charges have been filed against the Utah-based charity, which sold the gear with a promise to reimburse schools with money from private donations and government grants. Cameron J.
