Preclinical studies show that stem cells may reverse diabetes in mice

Stem-cell research company Gamida-Cell has announced the results of preclinical studies that an injection of an expanded population of cord blood-derived AC133 cells directly into the pancreas reversed diabetes in mice. The data from the preclinical mouse pancreatic study showed that the expanded population of stem cells helped restore normal blood glucose levels as well as the ability to maintain a stable blood sugar level. The expression of the human C-peptide, the marker for the production of insulin, also appeared.
