Viable Options for Healthcare Savings and Reform with Telehealth

e-Telmed, Inc., (www.etelmed.com) the leading single source telehealth solution provider, has created a significant and viable options for healthcare reform and reduced costs for physicians, patients, and insurance companies. Based on data gathered from the Medical Expenditures Panel Survey (MEPS) and the New England Journal office, where 60,000 patients were surveyed, key savings and efficiency options were identified. e-Telmed’s built-in EMR/PHR (Electronic Medical Record/Personal Health Record) software allows physicians to analyze and amend patient’s medical records securely over the internet and allows patients to view their medical records at any given time or place. e-Telmed also provides the most comprehensive video conferencing program for physicians and patients, which helps to reduce or completely eliminate out-of-pocket costs like transportation and prescription renewal.
For example, the national average for an emergency room trip is $560, while the national average cost of an emergency room visit is $383. A 20% reduction in avoided trips to the emergency room and subsequent avoided fees as a result of telemedicine is conservatively estimated.
e-Telmed’s telehealth program provides an alternative for continual face to face encounters for patients with their physician. The projected savings for insurance companies on this platform alone are tremendous. Based on studies conducted by the Center for Information Technology Leadership (CITL), the projected percentage savings for insurance companies are specific to each and based on current costs versus the negotiated costs of telehealth integration. For example, PHRs reduce errors, duplicate and unnecessary medical and lab tests and eliminates duplicate prescription costs while maximizing prescription access.
Those enrolled in e-Telmed’s program, including patients, physicians and healthcare facilities, will have a powerful PHR tool at their disposal and will benefit from active and pre-emptive costs savings while also supporting a healthy lifestyle and easy access to important information required by physicians regardless of location. With the e-Telmed, Inc. insurance organizations are now able to effectively expand their outreach towards customers who can enjoy enhanced levels of improvement in the quality of health care services.
Even though the Obama administration is pushing for the entire medical community to implement EMRs because of its proven efficiency, only about 15% of all physicians use an EMR system today. Of the 900,000 physicians in the U.S., approximately 765,000 physicians still do not have a comprehensive EMR.
The additional benefits e-Telemed’s EMR systems provide physicians include:

•     The ability to easily expand their practice
•     Monitor patients with chronic conditions
•     Provide access to medical care in areas with provider shortages
•     Prevent unnecessary delay in providing treatments
•     Portability - the ability to follow up with a patient from any location
•     Reduce liability through better medication management
•     And much more

Unlike other Telemedicine companies, e-Telmed maintains HIPAA compliance and is completely confidential; providing a one-stop, fully-integrated telemedicine solution for healthcare providers and patients.
According to e-Telemed CEO Lancelot James, “The e-Telmed EMR systems will revolutionize the delivery of healthcare. Patients and physicians will get tremendous cost savings with patient record tracking, eliminating lab test duplication and errors, reduced transportation costs for providers and patients, improved access to specialists, and better communication among providers.”
